Best skiing and deals out there
« on: November 07, 2019, 01:42:56 PM »
I always find it difficult to decide which mountains to go to, whether going to another country, or just a few hour drive... Thought it would be nice if everyone can input their experiences in different places both close to tri state and outside and also including deals, how good was the mountain, and if there's any good hotels around that would be advisable.

I personally will be going to Boston at the end of January and was thinking about driving to new New Hampshire, Maine or Vermont but don't know anything about either place... Maine is a decent amount closer, but possibly not as good. anyone have any tips? Or places they felt was good?

VT skiing is considered the best in New England - Okemo, Killington, Mt. Snow, Smugglers Notch. The slopes in NH can get quite icy.

Interesting. Ppl keep say Killington, is it as good as everyone makes it sound? Guessing the best place to buy lift tickets is liftopia?

Killington is really good. I think the big three in Vermont is Killington, Stowe and Okemo with Okemo being the closest to NY and Stowe the furthest with an hour between each.

And I much prefer Belleayre to Hunter - much less crowded, less pretentions, shorter lines, and cheaper. Unless you're a black/double-black skier, in which case Hunter has superior expert terrain.

Funny, just checked from Boston, and Stowe is 45 min longer but the other 2 are just a 10 min dif... Would u advise one over the other?

I've never been to killington, but I enjoyed okemo alot. Especially enjoyed it as a beginner skier, the trails are easy to use, wide and they have a very very long green (and you can mix in blues) for when you're wiped but still want to ski.
Went during quite a busy time and the lines where not bad.
I'm not who you think I am.

Do they still have a decent amount of blues? I mainly will be doing blues and a few blacks greens I rarely go on unless it connects etc..

Mount Snow in Vermont is also another option that is closer than the other three. Stowe is furthest from either NY or Boston. Stratton is also another option in Southern Vermont. Both are good family mountains with intermediate terrain.

Thanks, what would you call intermediate? Like family greens?

I loved windham when I went-I remember thinking of it as Hunter but less crowded.

I enjoyed Mont Tremblant last year when I went for all those in that area (north montreal)

and to answer someone from upthread, I believe liftopia is the best option if your not going with kosher ski tours which I think is better
nothings impossible- the word itself says Im possible

I have never been to Okemo but the person I went with to Killington said that he enjoyed it more than Okemo. There was a great assortment of really good trails and their blacks/double blacks were not really too hard and were really enjoyable.

Came across these two deals. Might be helpful for those with kids of eligible age.
