United plays dirty...

Day number 1, they removed the close-in fees, and didn't make any negative changes. Of course, they got (well-deserved) positive coverage from the press and bloggers.
Day number 2, they start pulling out the dirt... Close-in fees in miles at 5 different levels (that I noticed so far)
1.5k, 2k, 2.5k, 3k and 3.5k
Now.... that's simplicity!

OMAAT only mentions 3 levels for UA (1.5k, 2k and 2.5k), and 3.5k for partners.
I'm not exactly sure what the criteria for 3k is, but IINM, it's on a mixed award (UA and partner) when the first segment is operated by UA, in economy.

For example, a search NYC - TLV for 11/18 bring results in Y for 45k(UA only), 45.5k(UA and OS/LH/LX) and 46k (partner only). In premium and business, it's 3.5k (unless it has to do with saver/non-saver). From TLV to NYC, it's 46k in Y (on a mixed award) even if the trans-Atlantic flight is UA.

Bottom line, this is really simple!

It's dirty that they waiting until day 2 to implement the changes, after collecting all the compliments for being so mild.
At least wait a month.
Also, a round-trip is 7k miles vs $75 before Nov 15.

Noone said this is a massive devaluation. All I said, is that United played a dirty trick by waiting 24 hours to implement the changes. Not like these close-in requirements were decided on Nov 15 in the afternoon... Seriously, no reason to get so excited.

I think people feel that dirty is a strong word. This was sneaky, but I don't know if I would call it dirty. (Not that I would put anything dirty or even filthy past them....)

I highly doubt they intended to wait at all. And I’m pretty sure I saw the levels on day 1 (though not immediately ).

Just because it could've been worse doesn't mean it's not bad. Many routes with cheap award flight are easier to drive if necessary or always have cheap tickets.
