Was just @ the one on broadway. Nothing too great. Most things are 10% off, besides shirts which are 20%, Suits/blazers 30%.

I've never had much luck at going out of business sales.
At Borders people were snapping things up like crazy when they went 30-40% off, even though Borders had coupons for 40% or 50% off just before the going out of business sale.

By the time it got more than 50% off they had just junk leftover.

Same thing happened at CompUSA, Circuit City, etc.

Was just at the Syms in Elmsford, NY (if any DD'ers live anywhere near there) on Sunday -- there was plenty of merchandise all over the store. Suits and sport jackets are still 30% off, shirts are only 10% off (forgot discount of ties -- maybe 20%). Shoes are various discounts from 10% to 50%.

And by the way...there's a hit or miss clearance rack that is 50% off next to the tailoring/alterations area. Some of the things have alterations or chalk marks -- probably items that were altered and didn't come out right for some reason. There is a clearance price, and then 50% off that clearance price. I suspect all Syms probably have it....didn't find anything for me or my son in the two racks.

20%-40% off. not all that much left. some nice wool coats very reasonably priced.
some good deals on clearance shoes. i got a pair "their price 169, our price 89" 40% clearance and 20 closing down discount, down to $42.

very minimal selection of long rain coats, but more waist length rain 'jackets'.

Whoa there! Can you please delve a little into the wool coats dept?
Like, is there enough that I can wait till Sunday to go for wool coats or should I run tomorrow?

the range is relatively limited, they had a nice three quarter length wool coat - actually quite trendy, it was 80 after discount.
stocks pretty low. its sach hakol 20% off their normal price of 100.
if i really wanted one i wouldnt wait till sunday, although its already two days ago and i couldnt guarantee that they're still available.

i recall that they had gqite a few in size 42 - like maybe ten or fifteen of this particular coat.

Not to generalize... but I wouldn't think much of a wool coat with an original price tag of $100... meaning, it's probably worth the money for a nice fall coat, but wouldn't survive the NY winter.

How do they go about a store (credit) card when the store closes down? My syms card Is my oldest card by a landslide, opened same year as my d.o.b versus all my other card which are 1-6 yrs old, its really gunna mess up my credit (length) history if they close the card!!

does anyone have an update on any of the NJ stores if its still worth a trip from lkwd need suits/coats??

(i was the orig poster of this but didnt follow my own advise)
