If you want to use the card for the bonus categories it's quite useful that you have the first year free

+1

E.g. If you plan on spending a lot on airfare, getting 3x makes 365 more six times more worthwhile than 60.

The Plat has no bonus categories, so the argument of the first year costing money doesn't hold water.

This has the first year free unlike the plat

Is there a big difference between 60 [plat] or 365 [gold] days free?

If you want to use it for bonus/rewards, I'd say the answer to your question is a resounding yes.

E.g. If you plan on spending a lot on airfare, getting 3x makes 365 more six times more worthwhile than 60.

And then we have...

The Plat has no bonus categories, so the argument of the first year costing money doesn't hold water.

you're correct so the argument would be that the gold has bonus categories

That argument is fine,I never questioned that.

My entire point is that saying the Gold has an advantage over the Plat b/c of the first year free is not a valid argument as even if the Plat had first year free it wouldn't gain you much.

Amex is an unlikely approval for a first card unless he's an AU on someone's Citi. Either way, approval on a business card as a first card sounds unlikely as well, but I'm not sure.

Worth a shot, no guarantees. I don't know if any one Amex (at least not the ones with the decent bonuses) is better than the others.

Personally I'd prefer to go with a 50k Platinum offer ($1k spend required)
Did anyone use the 50k link recently? I would like to apply , just want to be sure that its showing up by Amex also as a 50k offer ( too burnt out from all my other amex fights to fight it afterwards)

I applied for 50K link but only got 25K points. Considering it's my 3rd Platinum for the year, not much room to fight either.

From a regular active link that said 50k on it? If so the whole Plat vs. Biz is built on a false premise.

I'm about to 3BM Amex but am looking for some advice. I don't yet have any cards from Amex so I thought it would be best to start off with Starwood Consumer card and Blue Cash preferred. Question is, what should my 3rd card be?

Should I go for Platinum (my wife has one already), 75k Amex business or Starwood Business?

I want to go to sleep soon so quick responses would be great!

Officially the 75k business offer expired. Not sure if that means anything though

If I can still get it through should I go for that? What's second best option?

If your credit isn't stellar (active cards for a while, low utilization etc.) and/or you don't have decent income, I dunno if you should be going for three. I don't think there's any difference which of the three you choose as a third card (if you insist on going that route).

Citi AA 75k links were working many months after they officially died. My guess is it doesn't mean anything, get a screenshot of the offer to be safe.

Based on?
The Plat 50K only gave 25K after it expired even if the app page said 50K.
Seems YMMV to me.

...AsherO, spread forth your wellspring of deeply rooted knowledge regarding all things AOR and all things holy.
This is good to know. I will surely seek out his advice if I ever apply for 25 cards at once again.   :)
