Status match to Alaska - easier than AA with same benefits
« on: November 03, 2011, 10:14:30 AM »
I used my Delta Silver Medallion status (earned through an Amex MR transfer promo) to attempt a status match with American. After 8 weeks I still haven't heard back from them. I tried the same thing with Alaska Airlines and had my MVP status in two days.

Effective Oct 27, 2011 AA and Alaska are honoring each other's elite status for most scenarios. That means you'll get free checked bags, preferred seat selection and priority check-in when flying AA even if you've never flown Alaska.

I emailed Alaska at mileage.plan@alaskaair.com with a current Skymiles screenshot.

I can't speak to the status matching (especially with regard to complimentary upgrades) but they've been doing the bolded for awhile now, no status match required. Simple partner reciprocity.

P.S. AA = American Air, AS=Alaska Air.

Only if you have status.
He was pointing out in order to get elite bennies on AA, its easier to status match from Delta to Alaska then to AA.

Now, I'm confused. You can get AA bennies with AS status?

Yes, that was the point of the OP.

But now I'm confused. If you didn't get that, what did you mean by your post?

Ah, I totally misunderstood.

I was simply pointing out that you do not need to get status matched from DL to AS to enjoy free baggage and priority boarding on AS. DL status will suffice.

I used my Delta Silver Medallion status (earned through an Amex MR transfer promo) to attempt a status match with American.

Is this promo still ongoing? If  so, please explain how to go about the process.

One of the reasons I got my PLatinum is because I wanted to get the $400 off incidental fees for AA (doing a lot of traveling in next few months) but if I can trigger the award matching soon enough I won't need the Platinum anymore. If I am wrong, please correct me.

Nu punishment, just try make sense of what you read before you reply so everyone else doesn't have to try make sense of our 10 posts...

Btw, the "gotcha" in my previous post was as in "I understand your previous confusion", as opposed to "I caught you".
Second statement was a side point.

is AS status match only once in a lifetime?

Thanks guys. Just emailed AS to match my DL silver.

EDIT: email won't go through... Is it my phone or is there a typo in the OP that says mileage.plan@alaskaair.com
