Hyatt Devaluation March 2020
« on: December 04, 2019, 11:16:36 AM »
Bad News

Hyatt just announced Devaluation coming March 2020 with Peak/Off-Peak pricing

"Introducing Off-peak and Peak point redemption for free nights.
Starting in March 2020, you’ll have more free night award flexibility, so you can plan ahead to get the most out of your points at more than 1000 hotels worldwide. Plus, if you have an existing award booking that drops to Off-peak in March, you’ll get an automatic one-time refund of the point difference – and you won’t be charged more if your booking goes up to Peak."

" More to know

If the redemption amount for a night on an existing award reservation is lowered to Off-peak in March, we’ll automatically refund the point difference, and if it goes to Peak, you won’t be charged any more points.
Points + Cash will also offer Off-peak and Peak point redemption. The cash required will still be 50% of the rate.
Free nights in suites will also be offered at Off-peak and Peak redemption.
You’ll have plenty of time to plan ahead. Redemption rates for free nights will be announced as soon as nights are available for reservations (usually 13 months in advance), and won’t change once posted. A new online calendar will help you plan (coming soon).
Hotel award categories aren’t changing – there are still 8."

Going dynamic.  PH up to 45K possibly during peak.  Another nail in the coffin.

Hyatt confirmed to me that free nights will be able to be used on category 4 peak pricing
Jury Duty: Nothing to do there but chill and write a TR. Kinda like the beach but missing the view and ocean breeze.

Oh, they will.  It's just a question of when.  Perhaps they'll include a juggle of properties this time, too. No way to know.

Not sure what is with all this sky is falling. There are still killer deals, no?
Only on DDF does 24/6 mean 24/5/half/half

Going to take a long time for that frog to be done at this rate. 45k for PH NYC is a steal. Would have to go over 100k for me to reconsider. I guess I look at it from the point of view of what it costs to generate points.

PH was 18K not long ago. Soft bigotry of low expectations.

Also, Andaz 5th is arguably a better deal at 25K vs 30K.

Probably will try Andaz next time.
I think we just look at differently. From were you sit you are probably right but from a MS view it is no big deal. It would be like going from 6x to 5x. Yes that is a major cut but 5x is still a killer deal.

is PH NYC going up to a cat 8? It seems to be a cat 7 which will be 35k on peak..
