I can't seem to find any direct UA flights available on Aeroplan search engine even when available saver on UA website. Do they need to be booked over the phone?

You are likely seeing XN or IN availability which is not available to partners.
Try searching while logged out of UA.com

But I have seen class I on united an aeroplan told me they have different inventory to what I see on united.
So before transferring make sure aeroplan can give you those seats.

NA-WAW on the LOT dreamliner.
NA-Europe on Swiss, United biz or first etc.

b'ikur LOT & Swiss is very valuable
