Someone care to give the reasoning why they think she would be sitting on the camel?

The main line of reasoning I have heard thus far is that this is the way it was illustrated when we learned it at an early age. (My kid coming home with this illustration is what prompted my inquiry, as I always intuitively understood her to be sitting inside the tent and not on top of the camel, I am now unsure).

If she was sitting on the saddle you would think that would typically be on the camel.
Dismounting from the camel seems like it would be a greater burden than getting up off a saddle sitting on the ground.

When (as in what time of day) did the encounter occur? Was she on the camel getting ready to leave the encampment, or did they just arrive and she didn't dismount?

In the evening she would dismount in any event. In the morning she might have already mounted (not the easiest thing to do) and difficulty of rising and dismounting is plausible.
