The only confusing part is whether or not they intended to go harm Jews either way and the police officer killing was just a plus for them, or only after they got caught up in a shooting spree with the police, they continued to find jewish targets.

If they just hated police and wanted to kill police they could've just kill the two police officer who were standing on patrol just a block away and then continue running in to the supermarket.

More than you would think. I have Jewish cousins that went to Catholic schools but that is not the point. We don't know their motive yet.

I'd imagine the cop broke up larger plans, why else would they have a bomb?
After they killed him they had to act quickly to salvage their anti-semitic plans.

I agree with that.. seems like the cop was just a bump in the road so to speak ..its possible that if he wouldn't have approached them they wouldn't target him they would just go straight for grocery/shul/cheder and follow thru with whatever their original plan was.
I'm assuming that because there where officers near the location by the time they wanted to exit the store to continue there spree the cops where already there shooting at them so they couldn't exit.

This theory works with what law enforcement is saying now that they know for certain that this could have been far worse.

The bomb points to something scary. The fact that the police officer went on offense a mile away sounds like there's more to the story and that the police knew about something cooking up.

they had a religious writings in there van, posted anti-semtic things online,  they identified as black Hebrew israelites and where loaded with ammo and bombs
hmm they must have been upset because they didn't correct change last time they grabbed a sandwich

if they knew something was cooking why would they send only one officer with no back up to try and stop them?

Anti-Semitism is a motive. The area is densely populated with Jews between the school, synagogue, and grocery store and they clearly scouted out the area beforehand.
Bigger plans including a bomb were jettisoned after they murdered the cop. They continued to the area and went for the softest target, the kosher grocery without locked doors.

Odds of a prior dispute are close to nil IMHO.
