The Gemara in Kesovos says when Rebbi dies he said eli sheimshoni bechaya, elia yeshamshoni bemossi, and they died. I don't think G-D kills for Rebbis benefit, so I think the pshat is that they were supposed to die earlier but Gan Eden wasn't enough for them until rebbi was there, so they couldn't die until he did.

With so many students, wouldn't they leverage economy of scale?

Maybe they do, and that's why they're not $30-40 Million in debt...

If I understand correctly, economies of scale make things cheaper - they don't make them free, and they don't make runnin something huge, cheap.

you do realize that they don't charge tuition correct? they did charge americans for a little while but even that R Nosson Tzvi stopped once he realized that they were still in debt and that it's a lack of emunah!

I didn't realize they don't charge tuition, that is amazing!!!
