any update on if this a new thing united is trying?

i paid recently for an upgrade delta one tlv-jfk $1400. i know its not as cheap as this but it was still a good deal especially if you consider of what delta usually charges for delta one on tlv routes. (i got that price by randomly checking the upgrade price in the app. when i orig checked think it was little over $2000 for the upgrade, orig ticket was a delta comfort ticket r/t was $1230)

My brother did this probably over a year ago. He booked a standard economy ticket, and they offered him Polaris for about $600, so he took it.
