premier executive status with united

I am 2200 miles short of earning Premier Executive status with united,
1) Is there anyway how to earn PE status with out flying?
2) If i need to fly to earn it, any suggestions how to get a cheap flight to earn the miles?  (flying our of Moscow)...
3) is there any real benefit if i will be flying this coming year perhaps 2 or 3 times with star alliance?    (besides using the Star A business lounges, and extra luggage...)

When booking a Continental ticket you have an option of buying extra EQ miles. Pricey, but if you are only short a few might come in handy

try your luck getting them to give you prem exec status complimentary, i know people who have managed to get them to do it as a once off
