With funds in shekels in a personal account at a bank in Israel, what's the best way to get the money exchanged into US$ at a good rate and then wired to a bank in the US?

With revolut there's no great rate, they don't charge any fee if you do it correctly and the rate is the exact change rate as you can find online. They adjust the rate every 5 seconds (some folks use the app as arbitrage, oh well).

Based on their websites, both ClearShift and Revolut seem to charge about 0.5% per transaction, which can get steep when transferring over 100k.

yes, I am using them on a daily basis for EUR>USD and yes they are a UK based company.

they don't have (yet) a "physical" branch in IL, but you could transfer from and to shekel.
