if they let anyone view the content online, why shouldn't you be allowed to view it offline?
copying tapes is all different.

I agree with you, but for arguments sake:
They let you view it online because they profit off it. The ads before videos generate profit.

IMO this is a moot point b/c the channels that are big enough to actually generate any real profit off their videos have ads/sponsors in the video itself.

Like he said. Also, It's copyright, inherently.

I don't think we have the right to determine what is considered a business model for those putting up videos.

Why is it copyright an issue? Not that I know anything about copyright law, but you aren't republishing it.
If someone buys a book, they can make a copy of it for themselves to read on a trip or such and then throw out the copy.

I'm not a lawyer, but I don't think that's true. And you're keeping it, not throwing it out

Same concept though. I'm not republishing it. The case with the book is incidental, it's just an example that comes to mind.

That's why I'm talking about a book that you buy for yourself and then make a copy for yourself to read. Obviously, learning out of copies, for something you would otherwise have to buy, is not ok.

So how's that relevant to YouTube to mp3
ETA where you would need to pay a dollar to listen to the song on your personal player

Summary
>Can you download a YT video? ETA: Not in the context of music.
any reason to think it's muttar beyond the old copying tapes / cds hock?

~Maybe, depends on whether the content creator will be ok with it. (i.e. did they intend for it only to be view on the platform). Yesh v'yesh.

> It may be a copyright issue.

~Perhaps not. After all, you aren't redistributing it under your own name, you are just downloading it for yourself later. Example: Printing a copy of a book for yourself.
So copyright isn't the issue here.

any add-on for chrome android?
Firefox has.
Chrome on Android doesn't have any way of installing extensions, so no luck there.

You either can use a browser that does have it built-in (Brave etc.) or one that allows installing extensions (Firefox, Samsung, etc.)

The other way is ad-blocking on the whole device, but it is not simple.

https://pi-hole.net/

on a raspberry pi  is a great way to ad-block your who home network. Costs $10- $35 for the pi and you need to be able to follow techy tutorials.  You can also run it on a $5/mo vps

See the link I posted above. There are clear parameters. Maybe @stbaum can chime in here, I'm really curious what the perspective of the industry is.

I'm talking about for android overall, (i.e. in apps etc) not just for the browser.

Right, this is what I'm looking for.
I didn't even know this was possible. But if it is, +1.
Does it require ROOT access?

There definitely are apps that do it, no root required. One way is using VPN, I don't know if there are any other ways without rooting.
