Continental and United Merger
« on: November 11, 2011, 09:35:11 AM »
Can you still sign up for a continental one pass plus cc (40K bonus), and the United Mileage Plus Explorer card (also 40K bonus), and still be eligible for both, even though the mileage programs are merging?

Eventually they will be combined on their own. No action is necessary.

According to a CO rep I spoke with, accounts must be linked in order to merge automatically

Open both.  And yes they transfer back and forth free.

Why not do a 3BM with Sapphire Preferred?  With 2 matches you'll have over 150,000 miles.

The CO card will be going away soonest, so do that one if you just want to try for one.  Miles transfer freely back and forth.

There are rumors that if a person has a CO OPP but no UA MP at the time they consolidate then the card will automatically be turned into a UA MP and make the cardholder ineligible for new bonuses.

Anyone have any more knowledge on this?

Sounds more like a hypothesis than a known fact.

Especially considering that you can always make a new account.
But yes, I'm sure Chase will be swapping out the CO cards.  The question is what happens to folks who have CO and UA.
