Especially considering that you can always make a new account.
But yes, I'm sure Chase will be swapping out the CO cards.  The question is what happens to folks who have CO and UA.
any theories?

Or not linking the 2 accounts you have now perhaps?

question: because my wife has "limited credit" chase would only give her one approval for the 3bm i did with UA and CO.  so she got the saphire and the bonus. I want to know apply her for another card and swap it out for the saphire. should i do first CO and than move onto UA after the bonus? any thoughts?

The CO and UA mileage account merger leaves me with a complex question:

I have multiple Continental and United accounts under the same name and address. How exactly will the merge work? They can't "guess" which accounts should be linked, can they? If so, presumably, instead of linking the accounts, they will just convert the Continental accounts to United accounts, correct? If that happens, will I lose my chance of merging accounts, since now they are all United accounts?

This brings me to my next question:

I have a United account with 50k miles, and I now want to sign up for the CO credit card for another 50k. Now, since I already had the CO credit card a couple months ago, I need to create a new CO mileage account to get the bonus.

Since by the time I get my bonus, my CO account will be a United account, I may lose my chances of ever linking the two accounts, thus I will be stuck with 50k in each account instead of having 100k combined.

The only solution would be to link the two accounts BEFORE the merger happens. But if I do that, when Chase's system is ready to deposit the points, will it not say, "wait a second, this account already got the bonus"?

You should be able to merge two United accounts. It shouldn't be a problem.

No airline that I know of let's you merge two accounts (without fees). Are you certain of this?

Any airline will merge 2 accounts that are for the same person (name, address)
Tell them you 'accidentally' created a 2nd account and need them merged.
Done it myself on delta and BA,

Continental does if the name & addresses match.
