The CO and UA mileage account merger leaves me with a complex question:
I have multiple Continental and United accounts under the same name and address. How exactly will the merge work? They can't "guess" which accounts should be linked, can they? If so, presumably, instead of linking the accounts, they will just convert the Continental accounts to United accounts, correct? If that happens, will I lose my chance of merging accounts, since now they are all United accounts?
This brings me to my next question:
I have a United account with 50k miles, and I now want to sign up for the CO credit card for another 50k. Now, since I already had the CO credit card a couple months ago, I need to create a new CO mileage account to get the bonus.
Since by the time I get my bonus, my CO account will be a United account, I may lose my chances of ever linking the two accounts, thus I will be stuck with 50k in each account instead of having 100k combined.
The only solution would be to link the two accounts BEFORE the merger happens. But if I do that, when Chase's system is ready to deposit the points, will it not say, "wait a second, this account already got the bonus"?
