I know that that Dan can not control what happens on his website and social media, at least not entirely, obviously. However I had an extremely disturbing incident happen to me, someone contacted me who said that he got my number from my WhatsApp profile on the dansdeals WhatsApp group that I was in. He then proceeded to try and engage me in conversation. I'm a pretty savvy guy when it comes to these things, i'm well aware of how phishing and scamming work, and I only engaged with him because I was trying to see if I could fish out some information to identify him to the community. over the course of the conversation which I have screenshots of, it became extremely clear that this person was very practiced at his craft and knew exactly how to try and coax me into his game without ever revealing anything personal about himself.
Although the incident was very disturbing, I chalked it up to Total randomness. however I then found out that a friend of mine had something similar happen to him, and my wife told me last night that she was contacted by someone in a similar manner she just ended the conversation quickly and did not engage.
That means that three separate people that I know of first-hand were contacted by people scouring these chats. Me and my wife are in different dansdeals groups. I'm somewhat leery of posting the screenshots of the chat here. If someone who works for the website or Dan can message me from his personal account I will be happy to share them with him. I think that you should be aware that this is happening and I think that then maybe you should post a blog post about it.
When they say the internet is a dangerous place they are not kidding. to be completely honest I actually did want to post the screenshots even though they are disturbing and even though I am obsessed with total internet anonymity and I would blur my number and the number of the person who this is coming from, but my wife was even more nervous than me and she asked me to err on the side of caution here and not post it.
