Is there any heter for one to use the commercially sized containers of garlic? By putting salt or pepper in it or even a bit of olive oil in it and then store it in my fridge to use over the next while?

good question. I heard a shiur once from Rabbi Yosef Viener about this and it’s very grey area as to when it’s muttar and not. He basically said you can’t kid yourself when you know deep down that it’s not really just to get it off your chest.

But if people are just doing it so the dead persons neshama can have an Aliyah, why does the dead person deserve it?

Maybe this covers it: Page 149 "No prohibition was ever issued for items that are intended to be stored for many months." Although peeled garlic doesn't last "many months", it is intended to be used over time.

On a personal note, until reading this I didn't know garlic had an over night problem. I only ever watched out for onions cut from their root area.

interestingly enough neither of them are brought down in Shu"a in siman 116. Eggs, onions , and garlic are a gemara in niddah mishum sakana. How this sakana which is not brought down ended up as almost a minhag Yisrael and not the other myriad dvarim moahum salana throughout shas not brought in Shu"a is a mystery to me. Mesoira must be the answer

Thoughts on using a transfer pump for irui? Is it called lo nifsak hakiluach? If yes, is it on the level of irui mkli rishon Al ha'esh to satisfy R' Shlomo Zalman's shita that wouldn't require even miluban if the kli rishon is Al ha'esh while you're doing irui? (Also seems the Rema holds like that regarding a pot spilling over-at least lechumra)
