Why do ורחץ and רחצה have different names, and what do their names tell us about them?
A bunch of meforshim say that it has to do with encouraging us to keep the 'chumra' of urchatz all year round.

I don't remember if i saw it anywhere or not (i don't have many hagados at home), but that is what my father always told me.
Makes sense though. I like it.

So appending it to kadeish with a vav tells us that it should always follow kiddush I guess?

No, it's not literal. 2 approaches to the same vort are brought here: https://ohr.edu/this_week/insights_into_halacha/7301

R Shlomo Zalman writes that the vav connects to the word kadesh, interpreting it as be holy and wash - ie be makpid on washing for food items dipped in liquid all year round. The Chida brings from v'yiten lecha where it means yitein yachzor v’yitein, that here we means rachatz yachzor v’rachatz - agains telling us to be makpid on this all year round.

The baal hahgadah wanted to make it easier to remember the steps of the seder so he wrote simanie haseder in a poetic way.
I'm assuming this is explaining why the 2 are named differently. But why is urchatz not named rachtza and vice versa?

Because urchatz rhymes with yachatz and rachtza rhymes with matza
If you don't care why would you comment?

Is that your own svara, or did you see that somewhere?

I hear, but the rhyming scheme breaks down at the end. And even then, you need to treat each 2 word siman as a separate step in the scheme to make it work overall. I kinda prefer a teretz you're more likely to see in a real sefer.

Why do ורחץ and רחצה have different names, and what do their names tell us about them?
1. The "vav" is so that all words have 2 syllables.
2. Also to stress that we wash after kadesh, even those that (back in the day) would wash year round before kidush. Alternatively, even if one washed beforehand, they wash over.
3. According to kabala, kadesh is chochma and urchatz is bina. The 2 are connected, hence the vav.
4. Rochtza vs rachatz is explained in pri etz chaim according to kabala.

Being poetic would warrant calling it rachatz. It's hard to explain but basically: by combining 2 together we have: urchatz, yachatz, rachatz. Then we have matza which will match with nirtza. Then we have korech, (shulchan) orech, berach. And nirtza which matched matza.

Technical correction.
The simanei haseder are not from the Baal hagadah.
I believe the simanin we have are from, or attributed to, Rashi.

Not that the first 2 are commands and not the rest.
Just because things turned out a certain way doesn't mean you were right.

According to this:

Only to someone who has no ear for poetry.

Boreich rhymes with koreich and oreich.
Nirtza rhymes with rachtza and matza.

You have to catch on to the meter of the poem.

Real sefarim don't tell the truth when it's boring. Find me a "real" sefer that explains the real reason why gemara starts on daf 2.

Before anything, you should know that it's a machlokes. So, ask your LOR and don't rely on this forum.
Small people talk about other people.
Average people talk about things
BIG PEOPLE TALK ABOUT IDEAS.
