Saw this very interesting custom of Rebetzin Kanievsky in regards to women lighting Chanuka licht:

ואכן חקרנו מנהג זה אצל גדולי ישראל בדורנו ולא שמענו על נשים מבנות אשכנז שהדליקו נרות חנוכה, פרט לאשת הגר"ח קנייבסקי זצ"ל הרבנית בת שבע ע"ה, שידידי הרב יצחק לסלו הי"ו סיפר לי, שהגיע לביתם במוצ"ש, ועצרו את האנשים מלכת, בשעת הדלקתה את נרות החנוכה. ובררתי וחקרתי את העניין, וידידי הרב עמיחי כינרתי שליט"א, היפנה אותי לספר שיח החנוכה, שהן שאלות שנשאל הגר"ח קנייבסקי זצ"ל, ושם בעמ' ח' מופיע במדור "פנינה הלכה" השאלה מדוע נשים לא נהגו להדליק, והשיב "כי מהדין יכולה להדליק ג"כ אבל דרך כלל המנהג שלא מדליקה כי הבעל מוציא אותה, ציין לחת"ס... ע"ש הטעם משום צניעות"
ועד כה זה כפי שביארנו לעיל.

On a different note I heard a Rov quip that the men and not the women light to fight the modern idea of "equality" and everyone has their specific avodah and mission. (more of a hashkafic idea than halachik)

Sounds right. I didn’t end up buying the book, I decided at the time that it seemed they were exaggerating her role and status.
