More advice than Halacha probably, but I am currently at the Atlantis in the Bahamas, and I found a Siddur from the Mashadi Jewish Center of Great Neck in the Coral library (the building with the free stays from Caesar’s diamond status, so reasonable to assume that a fair number of frum people stay here). Should I leave it under the assumption that it was placed there intentionally and that it will help other frum people, or bring it back and prevent it from being potentially damaged (accidentally or otherwise)?
I have a personal story that is similar to this one and it has a beautiful ending.
Years ago as a Bocher i stayed in Teveriya and forgot my siddur in the Shteiblach. I really liked that siddur and i vowed i would get it. Someday.
Around 10 years later i went with my wife on vacataion. But more importantly, i was excited to get my siddur back. Or so i thought.
Weird. I couldn't find it. But i did find plenty of other siddurim that had names and numbers in them so i took 3 that i thought i could trace down.
I took them and when we went to pick up the kids from my inlaws i put them in our suitcase. On the bus ride home after picking up the kids, the bus driver forgot to close the baggage area and on a sharp turn our suitcase fell out. He turned around to get it but when he got back there, it was gone. Vanished into thin air.
I told the driver to continue home becasue anyways i needed to help my wife with the kids. When we got home i printed some signs about the lost suitcase and went back to put them up. When i got to the bus stop, i saw someone i knew there and asked him if he saw a suitcase. "Yeah, there was one down the block in the street". This is around 100 yards from where it fell out. I quicky ran there and found a cop car sitting there and on the floor is our suitcase! It was really weird and one pocket was open. Which one? the one that had the siddurim!
Seems to be that Hashem sent us back our bag Bezchus for doing the mitzvah of Hashavas Aveida. (I still have one and have not tracked down the owner. Maybe ill post the name here and someone will be able to help.)
