Ot use some long strong grasses, available in an empty lot (usually)

Am I allowed to connect something/anything to the end of the 2x4 beams to keep the schach from rolling off ?

can't imagine a problem but you can always use wooden dowels. I did that to ensure that I shouldn't have rust

+1 it comes from the הקש of חמשה עשר from מצה. First kebaiya should be eaten plain without honey or dips. I don't think it applies to the ingredients in the challah though.
