The oil of the nes was shemen zayis zach - pure olive oil and therefore we pasken (Ramah) it's preferable to use it for the ner chanukah. Extra virgin and virgin are the purest olive oils. Everything else has at least some refined olive oil, which require solvents to produce the additional oil from the solids left after the initial production of oil from olives. That introduces the additional question of kashrus (for eating), where there are those that hold if it's not kosher it shouldn't be used for ner chanukah.

There is a GRA who holds that doing thing kashe lshikcha is oiver pen pen tishkcach. That is not the minhag.

I do not know of the mekor for eating with oil, but it probably is because olive oil has the opposite effect.

I was told many years ago that it's a (Marsha?) that it's only if eating olives alone, therefore adding oil will help.
