Why do you think that Amazon would be less likely to use a distributor than stop and shop, Walmart, target, or Costco?
I don't think wal-mart and Costco use a distributor.
Walmart definitely does for some items. I didn't think Costco does, though
I've done a lot of research on the food supply business as it relates to chametz. Everyone buys from distributors. They also buy from food brokers, and Costco also buys from closeout brokers. It's unusual for anyone to buy from manufacturers directly. There is absolutely no way to know who owned a specific item on pesach, there is just more of a chashash right after pesach in a store owned by a Jew. (and that persists to some degree year round, X days is very arbitrary, based on what we know of how stores rotate stock etc.)
But very difficult to assume that any specific box of macaroni was owned by C&S on pesach. (and C&S is not owned by a Jew for Pesach).
However I understood OP's question to be referring to FBA items where it's stored by Amazon and shipped by them but not necessarily sold by them. Looking back, I misread. Shipped and sold by Amazon is the same as any public company, see zecher Yitzchak 8.

Which is why I was confused by this
Who, amazon?
but that is now clarified

Do chain stores buy their private label items thru a distributor too?

Various brokers are involved from what I understand, and they may or may not own the food. C&S had their own private label. So does krasdale, which is a Jewish owned company that does not sell their chametz.
By the way, A small time food broker who buys and sells to both distributors and retailers was in my house on Yom tov. At any given time he owns 100 truckloads of various foods. He's careful to not own chametz, but many of his Israeli colleagues are not. These are not even an official part of the food chain, just operate in the shadows.

That would be no fun. But it's much better than the standard 'sell your chametz and stay open' mechira.

I feel stalked :) . I burnt out on it, it's a lot of work and people do what they want to do anyway. But it was reviewed by the biggest kashrus industry experts and they were ok with it back then

couldn't have said it better myself. O will also add/clarify, that there can be multiple distributers for the same exact item in the same supermarket. This has been confirmed by Ahold- Delhaize

Why would a distributor have his hands on a Stop and Shop brand of cereal?

store brands can actually come via a distributer. Often a large distributer may have a great connection with a manufacturer and the supermarket company doesn't want to be busy with finding a quality manufacturer . I know this to be true in several cases

IANAR, but I believe they are included in your mechiras chometz.
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

If you had neither paid for or received something before Pesach, how could you have sold it?

Doesn't look like it.

At most it's a taaroves (cirtic acid and vinegar), but practically, if made in the US, highly unlikely that either are grain derived.

And I bele8ve since Chametz SheAvar is generally maykil, it only applies to Chametz Deorisa, which this is certainly not, even if either of the 2 ingredients happen to be grain derived.
