If I go to Lowe's and buy a new grill, I pay for it $800 after a 20% coupon I have.
Now should I have misplaced the receipt or whatever reason I don't have the receipt and now try returning it they'll issue me $1000 gift card to Lowe's, what shall I do?shall I tell them I only paid $800? Or am I entitled to keep the  discount, as I won't be able to use that coupon later on?
I originally paid $800 and my 20% coupon so effectively having $1,000 gift card is my 20% coupon and my $800.
  What's your guys take?

For the sake of argument, let's assume that they won't be able to look you up at all in their system, and that they'll give you full credit for your purchase.  I would also say that I am not expert enough in halacha to know if this constitutes an issur or not. But clearly knowing that you paid only $800 for it, and taking $1000 on the return is unethical. You should be very clear as to what you paid for it.

What is ethical - is to say that you used a 20% coupon for it - and ask if you can get a 20% discount on your next purchase (assuming it was a one-time use credit).

Well I can make it have cash value with my method up above.
What's happening is im out a 20% coupon.
But by me getting back the 20% coupon in form of a gc that allows me to use the 20% on a future purchase, it's as if i'm using the 20% coupon but now just in the form of a gc.

For the sake of argument, let's assume that they won't be able to look you up at all in their system, and that they'll give you full credit for your purchase.  I would also say that I am not expert enough in halacha to know if this constitutes an issur or not. See above, whats wrong If I take back the 20% coupon in a gc to use for next time?

Eta; Push comes to shove, I went into the store, said I don't have my receipt with me, but she insisted that I use the cc I used to pay for it and have the refund go to there, vs a gc to use in the store which she made it sound like it's so complicated to create one.
As long as you have the cc you can now have your purchases tracked and returned.
But if I say don't have the receipt nor the cc, then I would come out ahead a few bucks.

As well called the Beis hoyrah hotline, rabbi Felder was answering, he said as long as they don't ask your fine.
Now not sure what he means? Does he mean that as long as they don't ask you if you have your receipt? You leave your receipt at home and the cc, so now you don't have either, or you lost or canceled one of them, so your left in this situation?

Why not just go down with him, or wait for someone to go into the elevator?

The problem with an elevator on Shabbos is not just opening the door. Your weight impacts the amount of energy used to lower the elevator.

Shabbos elevators are specifically designed to avoid this shaylo

See above, whats wrong If I take back the 20% coupon in a gc to use for next time?

Well for starters the coupon isn't '$200' the coupon is '20% off' - the difference would be if you purchase something with the Gift card that was less than $800. For example, you bought a $1000 grill for $800, you returned it and now want to buy a grill that costs $750 instead. With a 20% coupon the 750 grill would cost 600, but since you got 200 back on the return, you've effectively 'stolen' $50 you weren't entitled to get. Had you returned the Grill with a receipt, and insisted on the 20% on your next item, that is what would have happened.

But if I say don't have the receipt nor the cc, then I would come out ahead having stolen a few bucks.
FTFY - So you are essentially, giving out a recipe for fraud.

I would imagine he meant if they don't ask you for a receipt, or what you paid for it. Honestly, if they asked you what you paid for it, what would you say? Again, al pi halacha, it might be okay, but if you told them that you paid $1000 and you didn't your committing fraud.
