But most people are machmir not to eat or drink anything before the megillah even when it's ודאי לילה, what's the reason for that? why not do a coffee break after Mariv before reading the megillah.

I guess what people here are saying is that even drinking or tasting may lead you to neglect the megilla reading mitzva because of the fast?  you are prone to prolong your eating more so after a fast etc... and thereby delay or neglect mitzavs hayom

Instead of asking "tasting" you can ask on just drinking a coffee, which is allowed before other mitzvos. I always had this question, somebody told me it's because it's after a taanis it's more chumer you shouldn't get stuck eating after a fast day.

i don't think there is much difference between drinking or eating a snack in the poskim in this context

Maybe, but talking in practical terms, a hot coffee before the megillah, the best! :)

Is it ok for a lady/girl to eat if they’re going to hear Megillah with a later minyan ?

Ti'eemah is definitely OK which includes unlimited non-mezonos/hamotzie and up to a k'beitzah of mezonos/hamotzie.

Is this the halacha we follow?

Q. What bracha should be said on egg matzah?

A. One might assume that just as the bracha on regular matzah is Hamotzi (according to Ashkenazic custom), so too one should recite Hamotzi on egg matzah. In reality, that is not so. In a previous Halacha Yomis we explained that Borei minei mezonos is recited on crackers because they are in the category of “pas haba’ah b’kisnin” (loosely translated as bread that one eats as a snack). Since crackers are typically eaten as a snack and not as the staple food, their bracha is Mezonos. Although matzah is thin and crisp like a cracker, the bracha on matzah is Hamotzi, since it is baked with the intention to be used as a replacement for bread. This is true for regular matzos. In contrast, egg matzah is not intended to be a bread substitute. Therefore , egg matzah has the same status as crackers, and the bracha is Mezonos. (See Har Tzvi OC 91)

The halacha is for a fast day you need to accept it upon yourself by Mincha the day before. The aguda and ou put out a letter for people to fast half a day today but many people got it after Mincha is there a difference between a full day and half day fast?

No. Let your wife make first and be you motze, then you sniff,  in case there is any sense left.

Given the widely accepted custom to not eat matzah from Rosh Chodesh nissan until the seder is it possible for someone who has only one challah in his house to use a matzah as the second loaf for lechem mishna? (i.e. he makes motzi on the challah and matza, but only eats the challah).

* Yes - said matzah would not be used on Pesach *
