Please note that many ovens today have ‘Aqualift’ or ‘Steam Clean’ instead of a conventional self-cleaning feature. Neither ‘Aqualift’ nor ‘Steam Clean’ get hot enough to kasher the oven. Instead, use the Conventional Oven kashering method as described above.

-.05 some models do. Others, called continuous clean, used a different method and don't require pouring water or a hard water line.
I understand that some may have both, but how exactly would an oven do steam clean with no water?

Those with self clean ovens will notice that even after a deal clean with degreaser such as easy off and washing after, there will still be a fine layer of ash after a full 5 hour self cleaning

Continuous clean ≠ steam clean

So what was your -.5 to my comment about steam clean? Is there a steam clean feature on the market that's good for kashering? If not, I don't see what the -.5 means.

That's the point. Thank you for explaining further
Yet still some poskim have an issue. Little anecdote... I once had the opportunity to perform libun with a blow torch for a prominent posek who does not allow self clean. At the point which he said was libun gamur the heat only measured about 500° F. The heat was measured very accurately with a markal temperature indicator stick and a calibrated infared thermometer. He still maintained that self cleaning doesn't work since maybe direct fire is different intense heat.

You mean heseiko bifnim? Then why not get the oven to 550 and then turn on the broiler?

Anyone have any specific maareh mekomos saying even a 'first half' holder can shave tomorrow?

Wasn't sure if that could mean davka when rosh chodesh is shabbos-sunday, but I actually don't think the calendar can fall out that way. And besides, it wouldn't make much sense to be mechalek.

Thanks for posting.

Actually, I take it back. Apparently there is some discussion in the later poskim as to whether the M"B meant to include a scenario like this year, where shaving erev shabbos involves 'violating' the tzava'a of R Yehuda Hachasid. I don't have the specific maareh mekomos handy, but I heard that Rav Vosner and Rav Chaim Kanievsky said it's not included in the M"B's heter, while Rav Moshe said it is.

ETA - Specific maareh mekomos for this machlokes here: https://judaism.stackexchange.com/questions/113721/may-one-shave-haircut-on-friday-rosh-chodesh-iyar.

And obviously this later machlokes is only relevant if you follow the tzava'a of R Yehuda Hachasid the rest of the year as well.

Rav Wossner was Matir if the first day of Rosh Chodesh is on Friday
