I was speaking to my son (who is learning in EY) about Yom Tov Sheni Shel Galus for Bnei Chutz La'aretz in Israel.

He mentioned to me that he heard from one of his friends that their yeshiva told them to keep a second day, but to daven the regular Chol Hamoed davening (or weekday davening in the case of Chutznik Simchas Torah).

I realize that there are different opinions on the matter, but my impression was if you were celebrating Yom Tov Sheni shel Galus, you observe it as you would the day before - is there a source for this hybrid?
The way I could understand it is as follows:
The Rov is noteh that it's chol but wants to be machmir for the possibility that it's Y"T. Therefore, for melacha and seudos etc. treat it like Y"T but for Shmoneh Esrei it's a binary choice so do the one that he's more noteh is correct.

BIG PEOPLE TALK ABOUT IDEAS.

This is basically a non-psak known by Americans as 1 and 1/2 days. When I was living there as a newlywed I asked R Dovid Mor who told me that if I get such a psak I can go ask someone else,

It's a psak mesafek. Note that unless you're sephardic or Chabad pretty much everybody keeps 2 days unless considering staying in Israel permanently.

Cleaning lady decided to put cheese in my fleishig microwave. ran for about 40 seconds before I caught it. What is the process of kashering the microwave?

it's nearly impossible to Kasher a microwave.
If the cheese was not wrapped,  it's basically over.

I think there is a way to do it by boiling water inside for a while. Ask LOR

AYLOR. I did it a few years ago, I don't remember the exact details. If it's a cheap countertop microwave many would say throw it out, but if it's an expensive built in microwave many will allow you to kasher it.
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

So here is where my confusion lies - if am making a seudah and davening chol, I am making kiddush no? So I am making kiddush it's contradictory for me to say "Mekadesh Yisroel v'hzmanim" in kiddush and not say it in Shomneh Esrei.
(I assume you are making kiddush, if not what makes it a seudah, it's simply lunch )

I can't see a situation where there is a strong enough sefak for me to observe Yom Tov and NOT say Yom Tov Davening.

This is basically a non-psak known by Americans as 1 and 1/2 days. When I was living there as a newlywed I asked R Dovid Mor who told me that if I get such a psak I can go ask someone else,

My sentiments exactly, but in the case of my son's friends, they don't have a choice...

It's a psak mesafek. Note that unless you're sephardic or Chabad pretty much everybody keeps 2 days unless considering staying in Israel permanently.

I am not questioning the 2 days for a ben chutznik - just the idea of "1.5" days. I get keeping two days, but they way this Am Haretz sees it:

- If we're so concerned about the sefaik of today being YT for a Ben Chutznik, then we should treat it entirely of a Yom Tov
- If we're so concerned that someone saying YT Tefila today is erring by saying the wrong davening, that we make them daven tefilot chol (or chol hamoed), it must be that today really isn't YT for them

No kiddush. Safek Melacha, lechumra. Safek Brachos, Lehakel
I am not questioning the 2 days for a ben chutznik - just the idea of "1.5" days. I get keeping two days, but they way this Am Haretz sees it:

There is no concept as 'treating it'. There is a question of which davening to say. Why should we err on the side of YT as opposed to CH? Either way would be an equally wrong davening. There is a question of doing melacha or not? If we pretend it's YT, we gain potentially preserving it, and don't lose any CHol Hamoed dinim, but if we pretend it's CH, we risk potentially desecrating YT and gain nothing. Most Poskim for that reason will instruct to put on tefillin on Isru Chag

AYLOR. Step one is to make sure that it is entirely clean and there are no remnants. Then take a cup of water, place in the center and boil for 4 minutes, move the cup off center, and boil for an additional 4 minutes.

Yes, that is considered litzorech HaMoed because it is for the purpose of beautifying the sukkah.
(There is a discussion if this would permit someone to overly exert oneself but that is not relevant for most decorations which are either hung, taped or attached in some other very temporary way that is very easy to do)

As long as it is actually done right in a way that is omed bruach metzuyah. Doable and not terribly difficult, but not as easily as you make it sound.

1. within 3 tfachim of lavud is enough
2. Don't think that is needed at all in this case with 2 full walls opposite each other and the 3rd more than 7 tfachim of actual wall. That is my recollection but need to check.
