Looking for a General purpose laptop:
Budget-$600-$750 (willing to stretch a bit if needed)
Going to be using it for Web-surfing, office work and occasional light Photoshop.
couple of points
- GPU doesn't help much with photoshop or photo editing though it does help with 3d effects.
- If you are doing photo editing, the color, brightness, and viewing angles matter a lot. resolution should be 1080p/FHD regardless.
- Build quality is important.
That said
- The $399 inspiron is a low end build, and while I cant find the deets on the screen, I'd wager it's not great
- I'm typing on a lenovo flex 5. Correct, good build and specs, mediocre screen for anything to do with photo editing (250 nits, 45% ntsc)
- The $500 Dell and Ideapad 5 mentioned above are both decent builds and both have 300nit screens. (decent, good enough I think). The color is probably average on both, nothing to write home about, so if you do lot's of designing/photo editing something to think about. Viewing angles are fine on both. I'd tip to the dell (newer, upgradable ram, 12gb vs 8gb ram)
-
https://psrefapi.lenovo.com/ is where you check the exact specs on a lenovo, they are the best with having accurate info.
- The microsoft surface go seems like a good idea. Never used one myself.
- The yoga 7i is probably a better idea. great screen, amazing battery, and will last a lot of years. the 15 inch is on the heavy side, but if you aren't traveling a lot, it's fine
Hope that helps
