It's a nice deal however these laptops are not the $1500 laptops you think it is even though it's an i7 it's a weak i7 and the hard drive is slow

There are 3 types of hard drives 5400rpm, 7200rpm, and SSD. There is a performance gain from 5400 to 7200 and a "higher end" laptop should not have 5400, the difference between either speed HDD to SSD is huge the problem is that a 240GB ssd costs about $90 and larger sizes cost much more and for some reason if they put the ssd inside you are paying at least 2-3 times that price just for the ssd upgrade

I don't really know what day traders do to tell you if an ssd is what is needed it all depends what type of programs you run

I have no idea. I'm not good with computers at all but lets just say people that day trade have computers like gamers. I would need to look through multiple charts and have a chat room running as well as the platform I'm trading with.... I would need something to connect 2 monitors at least....

So it sounds like you really need a high end computer in which case unless you need a laptop you are best off buying a desktop with a decent i5 and an ssd

For most basic operations like system start up, core functions etc., there isn't any significant timing difference between 7200 rpm and SSD hard drives.
Once you get in to the detailed functions of added programs (adobe, office etc.) and accessing files memory, you save some time.

I actually would beg to defer.
At my office, we employ many computer and software engineers, 1 of our goals was to achieve a faster start-up on a windows based system.
Even with SSD timing was almost identical to non-SSD drives.

Gotta side with Avromie on this one. Ssd doesn't increase speed with everything, many features rely on processing speed and not read and write speeds of ssd, having said that one noticeable and definite different is start up speed. With a ssd drive the system starts up significantly faster.

+1, most laptops out there Windows 8.1 that is 15.6 and bigger and less than $1000 will be a 5400.

It depends what you do in word are you downloading and moving large documents or Just simple small documents

Thanks for the clarification. What is the difference in performance if it has a hybrid 5400 RPM + 8gb SSD?
