Probably the best example of this bizarre phenomenon. What is the seichel of putting a fast boisterous tune to the words of a verse that bemoans the fact that people encourage each other to build and serve idols?

Not much seichel at all.

From his very first album, Avraham Fried has been open about how he uses his music to convey a message. Many of his songs come from him taking a possuk, maamer chazal, or concept to a songwriter to write a song about. He used to pull out a chumash at concerts to read the pesukim he was singing. The source is everything.

But sure, I'll take your word that he's totally ignorant about the title track of one of his best albums.

He’s not ignorant. There is a medrash that darshens it to refer to Shem the son of Noach building the Teiva. But since the simple meaning and most mefarshim learn it as referring to collaborating over the construction of Avoda Zara, it’s still a somewhat bizarre song to have everyone singing.

It's not bizarre at all to give different meanings to a possuk in the context of a drush or a song even without a midrash.

Do you also think it's bizarre that MBD sings for 6 minutes about Yosef looking for his brothers?

Could not disagree more. To unilaterally give ones own meaning to a possuk to make a song without a medrash or authentic mekor as a basis for doing so is censured by Chazal in the strongest terms.

I meant מגלה פנים בתורה שלא כהלכה but maybe if it is clear to everyone that it is a takeoff on the possuk and not intended to refer to פשט that would not apply?

Yes I think it is weird, although not on the level of איש את רעהו יעזורו. That one takes the cake.

My 8-year-old niece had 2 dresses and wasn't sure which one to wear for a relative's wedding. My sister told her to sleep on it, so she put them both under her pillow that night.

קרוץ מחומר מה מה מה מה ,מה מה מועיל לו ,אוהב וחומד את .את שאינו שלו. Jumping and dancing to these words always bothered me by Chasunas.

So agree. Besides that I hate the tune that has no shaychus with Yiddishekeit.

Easy solution which is used by some is to instruct the band to play exclusively Lubavitch niggunim.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

I heard from R Shlesinger in Monsey. Why do people say ארבעים שנה אקוט בדור on Friday night with a happy tune and זמרו לאלקים זמרו before tekias shofar in a sobbing tune? Obviously the words don't matter, it's the niggun that determines the meaning.

There are some places where the Chazzan doesn't say 40 Shana out loud. He just starts Shiru.
