Austria Saalbach - Hinterglemm Alpen Karawanserai TR

Aug 13/18 part one

We wanted a vacation with kosher food and nice weather. We chose Austria and got a nice hotel with great food. We were debating between Switzerland and Austria but Austria weather was nicer.
When we looked at the weather it showed rain everyday but in the seven days we were there it only rained the day we arrived.

We booked a one way with United points for 30k. We flew with Lufthansa. Flight left 9:50pm and we landed in MUC 10:20am.
We took along our 2 kids and could only find economy seats. The flight was good and fast. Once we landed I picked up my car with Avis. They gave me a nice BMW.
And now we are on our way to Alpen Karawanserai. The trip takes about 2 hours and  45 minutes. We made it in 2.5 hours. It’s a very long ride after a flight with no sleep. The kids slept most of the trip to the hotel. The views were amazing beautiful. The first half of the way there is no speed limit so I got to test my car how fast it can go.

As you see it was cloudy but still nice.

We arrived at out hotel about 2 pm. Since it was the last week they were open for the season the hotel was only half full. They gave me an upgraded room, a connecting room so the kids slept in a separate room.

After check in we wanted to lay down for a bit but the kids were too excited and only wanted to see everything already. So about 4:30 we went out for a walk and took in our surroundings. It was really nice. We were back for supper, which was everyday from 6-8.

The food was delicious, and enough. We ate and davened and made it an early night.

Aug 15, our first full day

The minyan in the morning was 8AM. Then breakfast was available till 10:30.

We woke up around 9:30 only to find the kids still deep asleep. We rushed down to eat breakfast and bought up breakfast for the kids, so when they wake up they have a good hearty breakfast.

We spoke to the concierge as to where to go. They were great in helping us plan out our days and telling us exactly where to go and how to get there. They gave us a Joker card, one per person. All chairlifts in the area were free and some attractions were free or discounted. Make sure to keep it in your trip bag because you must have it with you.

For the first day we wanted to take it easy and the weather was a bit cloudy so this is what we did.

We left our hotel at  about 11:15. We went to a place called Der Talschluss here is a link to their site http://www.talschluss.at

The address the give you to put in the gps takes you somewhere else. The way was supposed to take 20 minutes from the hotel and it took us an hour. When you get near the place the gps kept sending us somewhere else. If you go remember when you see the big parking lot that’s where you have to park. The main attraction is up on a hill so you park on the bottom.

There are two ways to get up on the mountain. Either you can walk up or take a bus. The walk is about 45 minutes. At first we started walking but the kids got tired, so we went back down and took the bus. The bus runs every ten minutes. It costs money but if you have the Joker card its free.

Suspension Bridge

This park is a fun place for bigger kids. It has a big climbing adventure with lots of zip lining. The suspension bridge shakes when you walk onto it. It has amazing views. We were there about three hours. The weather wasn’t the nicest that day so that’s why we did this the first day. The other days we had beautiful blue skies.

From there we went to a place called Glemmy Ralley Karts. It’s a place where you can rent ATVs or go karts. They let my 10 year old drive a small ATV by herself and they let me drive a big ATV with my 4 year old as a passenger. We were there for an hour and called it a day.

Kid on the Atv

Bigger Atv

We went back to the hotel to rest a bit. Then we took the kids swimming, the hotel has two large pools. Then we ate supper. And after supper every night we went out on a long relaxing walk while the kids stayed behind in the hotel playing with the rest of the kids.

The area in which the hotel is, is beautiful. At the side of the road it has a running water in the entire area and mountains all around, its stunning. If you want to stay in the hotel area and not drive around you can. There is plenty to do there. A few chairlifts, mountain biking, mountain climbing, hiking. On top of the mountain there are playgrounds for the kids chairs for everyone to sit around and enjoy the breathtaking views.  But we chose to go sightseeing every day and explore many sites.

AUG 16 Day 2

We woke up early to a nice blue sky. I still had time till davening so I sat on my porch with a hot coffee and enjoyed the amazing views

PICTURES of the morning outside our hotel

Enjoying the morning views

Golf car track for the small kids

We ate a good breakfast took some sandwiches and left early.

We went to a place called Kitzsteinhorn Der Gletscher its in Kaprun. It’s the tallest mountain in Kaprun. The views the entire way from the hotel to this place is indescribable. Once you get there you buy tickets for the chairlift to go up. Its not a cheap attraction.

The mountain is almost 10000ft high.  The gondola to go up makes two stops. At the first stop its just if you want to hike or mountain bike down. At the second stop they have a big playground for kids and a place to sit and take in the view. It’s beautiful.  The third stop is almost on top of the mountain. It’s cold and windy up there. Take along thick sweaters or jackets. There is snow and ice on the floor. You can go snow tubing or sledding there. We had a lot of fun there.  Then you can hike up or take an open cable car to the peak of the mountain. We did the hike. There is a shop up there you can buy drinks and souvenirs. Then we hiked back down to the 3rd stop. We spent the most time on the 3rd level.  It’s an amazing beautiful place. If you’re in Austria I would say it’s a must to do.

We left Kitzsteinhorn Der Gletscher at around 3:30. On the way back to the hotel we stopped at a place called Alpine Coaster Maisiflitzer, Kaprun. The have a big alpine coaster we did it four times. They also have jumping balloon afew little rides a huge slide and a playground. The kids loved it. The line to the coaster was huge and it was sooo hot but the kids still did not want to leave.

AUG 17 Friday

Shabbos was late, but we made it a bit early. I think we davened at  about 7:30. Se we still had most of the day to go out and enjoy.
After a good breakfast we left to go to Zell Am See.

There is an area called Zell Am See. It’s about 25 minutes from the hotel. The view there is absolutely amazing. They have a nice big lake where you can rent a bike and ride around the lake. It’s a 2 hour bike ride. We drove bikes kept on stopping to take pictures of the view. Then we rented a small motor boat for 1.5 hours and relaxed in the boat.  You can also take a big boat with many people and a tour guide. We decided to go on our own. The boat rental is cheap I don’t remember the price.

We headed back to our hotel and got ready for Shabbos.

By the time we got back was about 3:30. They served toameyhu. The food was good.

Shabbos

Friday night we davened around 8. I think shabbos was about 9:15 but not sure.  The seudah was served and food was very good.

Shabbos morning they started davening  9:30 and finished about 11. They made a huge outdoor Kiddush. It was beautiful and a lot of good food.

Then there was a break till 12:30. We went for a walk and enjoyed the nice weather outside. We also went to the park next door to the hotel where the kids loved to play. There is also nice places to sit there for adults too. They have a rocking bench, swings, nice wooden chairs.

The day meal was great. After the seudah we went for a long walk. The weather was bliss. And then we still had time for a nap.

Motze Shabbos was really late. Overall Shabbos was really nice and relaxing.

Sunday morning

Our table where we ate

Some nice views outside of our hotel before we left for the day

We ate a delicious breakfast, took some food to go and got ready to leave for the day.

We left the hotel about 10:30. Our first stop was the amazing Krimml Waterfalls. It’s a 1 hour drive from the hotel.

Once u park there you have to walk about ten minutes till you can buy tickets to go inside the park. Then you have two options either you hike till the top and see the waterfalls from the top or you walk down about 15 minutes and see the waterfalls from the bottom. Since we went with children and it was very hot we only saw the falls from the bottom. It was really nice, we were there 45 minutes and then walked back.

Pictures of the falls not the best since you get wet from the falls

From the parking lot

Next we went to a place called Sommerrodelbahn in Saalfelden this is their website https://www.hochkoenig.at/de/sommer-urlaub-salzburg/seilbahn/sommerrodelbahn.html

We got there at 2:45. Stayed there for about 3 hours. This place is a lot of fun. It has stunning amazing views. You take an open chairlift up a mountain, it takes about 20 minutes and you sled down an alpine slide. It was such a thrill. We did it a few times. The kids loved it and we enjoyed it a lot too.

Then we headed back to the hotel for supper. Took the kids to the pool, went for our nightly evening stroll and called it a night.

Monday

We went to a place called Hochgebirg sstauseen Kaprun. I’m not sure where to start telling you about this place. The views are stunning, It’s a place with a lot of history, hikes, and funicular. It’s all in one.

You get to the parking lot and buy tickets for a bus. You have to take the bus that takes you through a tunnel between the mountains. It only has one lane and makes such sharp turns. Bus ride is about 15 minutes. Once you are off the bus you take a funicular. About 100 people can ride it at once. It goes the mountain.

Once you get off the Funicular you take another bus for a 15 minute ride to the top of the mountain. From there you can see the nice water from the dam. The view all the way up is so nice I have no words to describe it. Once you get to the top you see the dam that was built by the war. There’s a museum up there and you can watch a video of how the dam was built. You can hike up a little more till the top, you can get a tour with a guide. And they have lots of playgrounds.

We spent there about four hours. The way down was the same thing. First you take a bus then the funicular then the bus again. If you’re in the area this place is a must, but it’s very high up, so if you don’t like height it’s not for you.

The buses u have take

The Tunnel one way

Here you wait for the funicular

Our way up

First look of the Dam

After that we went to a place called Sigmund Thun Klamm Kaprun.
It’s a beautiful hike made out of steps, between waterfalls. It takes about 45 minutes. It’s very nice and relaxing.

On our way back to the hotel we saw a sign of go karts. We let our daughter drive one.  It was ten minutes from our hotel. After that we called it a day.

We enjoyed our last night supper since tomorrow will be our last day and the last day of the hotel for the season.
Supper for the last night

In the area of our hotel there are 7 different cable cars going up different mountains. So we chose one of them, went up, the view was amazing, really stunning. They have a huge playground on top of the mountain the children loved it.  At 1pm we came back down and left to the airport.
