I got the flu shot but its all a guess that they picked the right strain to fight and if they guessed wrong then you can still get the flu even with the shot

There are a fee different strains of the flu. Even you had a shot for strain A, it won't help you for Strain B.

Your saying that getting vaccinated for strain B will prevent them from getting the strain A, more then if they actually had the strain B flu?

Because that actually what happened with my kids

My 3-month old got the flu and the doctor put me on Tamiflu as a precaution. Rest of the family had the flu shot

I got the shot. No cost and got $5 of free groceries, so, no-brainer :)

No flu, but I got a cold last week and I still have the cough that came with it lingering around.

A new study found strong evidence that you cannot get a cold and the flu at the same time

No shot. Never had a shot afaik. I don't know if I had the flu. I did have a very bad cold which might've been the flu. How do you know if it's the flu or not? Only a doctor could test it?

Cold
-The big difference between cold and flu is that a cold often does not come with a high fever and/or body aches, explained Valdez. A cold will often come with a low not high fever, between 99 and 100 degrees, which does not last long.
-A cold typically follows a pattern which starts with a sore throat at the beginning, then congestion for a few days, and then as the congestion starts to clear a cough can develop which also lasts for a few days.

Flu
– A big indicator that you have the flu is when symptoms such as body aches, fevers, chills, nausea, an upset stomach or night sweats suddenly start occurring, Valdez said.
– A high fever, above 101 degrees, is also a sign that it is the flu and not a cold.
Only on DDF does 24/6 mean 24/5/half/half

I was achy for a few days last week, but no high fever.

Does the flu test ever give false positives?
Workflowy. You won't know what you're missing until you try it.

Do you (anyone) go to the doctor when you get a cold/flu or try and ride it out?

Nothing to do for a cold.
If you have the flu you can take Tamiflu.

When my first kid had it I went to the doctor and test came back positive, but from that point on when my other kids and my self catched it within a matter of days I did not go.

And it doesn't really help much according to many people that wife asked.

Sometimes it does sometimes it doesn't. Plus it only works if you take it within 48 hours of getting sick. Plus it causes stomach issues.

A simple google search for “does tamiflu work” got this.
https://www.webmd.com/cold-and-flu/news/20121114/does-tamiflu-work-questions-continue

Basically its supposed to make the flu one or two days shorter and less severe, but it isn’t even proven to work. So even if it works it’s not that good... also there is a serious side effect of confusion or even hallucinations... all this is besides the fact that it taste disgusting and makes an upset stomach and nausea. The last thing you want is your kid not wanting to eat or even throwing up because of it, especially when their appetite is very weak to begin with while having the flu, it can make them sicker and have a slower recovery if they don’t eat enough...

Conclusion: looks like there’s alot of hype about tamiflu but it sure seems like the cons out way the pros... and it looks like it’s just out there as a money maker...

For the record, my kid got the shot and got the flu. I gave him tamiflu as that is the accepted view by most doctors. In the middle after my kid threw up I did this “research” for 2 minutes and stopped giving him the tamiflu.

Some in my family can take it, others suffer and throw up from nausea.

Seems to me it depends on the person.
