Welcome to Serbia!

Serbia is a safe country, Belgrade is a safe city. The Serbs love Jews, and there is no anti-Semitism. You can walk around the street with a kippa without fear. As in all cities, just beware of pickpockets who can try to take money without you noticing.

Transportation to the city
Private driver:
Reliable English-speaking driver: Mr. Aleks.
Phone number / Whatsapp: + 381-693571234

You have to coordinate with him in advance.

Prices For each direction:
4- car seat: $ 25
7- car seat: $ 40
You can pay him in US dollars.

Taxi:
It is recommended to take a taxi from the airport. the estimated cost for each direction is $18 but you can only pay in local currency – Serbian Dinar. You can convert dollars to local currency at the airport. The conversion rate at the airport is high so it is advisable to convert only the necessary amount for a taxi and to convert the rest in the city. There is a money change location in every corner of the city.

Pay attention! You should only take a taxi from the official station where there is a large taxi sign at the airport. local drivers will offer you a taxi please don’t go with them as they will charge you an excessive price. Again, just go to the official station!

Accommodation
You can feel secure with any hotel on Booking.com or Airbnb.

Chabad apartment:
You can rent our beautiful newly renovated apartment in Chabad House. There are only 2 rooms and each room has 2 beds. Its suitable for a maximum of 4 people. Price for one room: 40 Euro. Price for 2 rooms 80 Euro. For more information and reservations click on this link.

For recommended hotels in the city center close to the Chabad House please click here.

Kosher food:
Please note! Belgrade has no kosher restaurant or shop. even if Google redirects you to “kosher restaurants”, they are not kosher at all!!!
Chabad provides kosher dinners at 7:30pm by reservations only. Please send requests within 2 weeks of your visit. For information and pre-order click here.
Breakfast and lunch can be ordered for groups of 10 or more by sending a request within 2 weeks of your visit.

Minyanim:
Usually there is no Minyan on weekdays, but sometimes when there is a group of guests we make a minyan at the Chabad House for Mincha and Arvit.

We recommend that you send us a message two days in advance to see if there is a chance for a Minyan. Also, if you see a lot of Jews on your flight, you can arrange with them and schedule a prayer time at the Chabad House.

Tour guides:
Belgrade is a beautiful and interesting city with a fascinating Jewish history. there are many Jewish tour guides in Belgrade who will be happy to take you on a tour.

Here is a list of recommended Jewish tour guides.

I don't believe trip.com offers a 24-hour cancellation, unfortunately.
They should. Took a lot or effort to get it in writing, but I currently have written confirmations for 2/3 for a full refund. Waiting for the third and will call BA k if I don't have it.

It seems that the London call center can help but the Malaysian one cannot. Not sure if I also spoke to Hong Kong who were also unhelpful.

Lesson learned that I will never book with them again unless I'm 100% sure. Unfortunately, with a price mistake, we book and then have to request days off, rather than vice versa with traditional travel.

On the overnight layover, does Air Serbia check bags through from TLV to JFK, or will I have to claim my bag at BEG and recheck it? And, if I have to recheck it, can I do that right away or do I have to wait until the next day? I'm hoping to not have to lug my big suitcase with me.
I had a 26 hr stopover. I called them up before and on the phone they told me that they only hold for 24 hr so I hold have to get my bags and recheck the next day. However, when I checked in by the airport they had no problem doing it for me.
The only issue I had was with a stroller. They do not give it by the plane on landing. You must go to baggage claim, get it, go thru customs and then back into the airport thru security.

Glad it seems to be working out for you. But I don't see any indication on the website that Trip.com officially offers a 24-hour cancellation, so you may be the beneficiary of a good will gesture.

My layover is about 21 hours, so it looks like I'll certainly be able to check my bag through. Good. Thanks.

I had a 17 hr stopover last summer. My bags were checked through I didnt have to pick them up. The flight itself was smooth (except for someone smoking in the bathroom!). They seem to be very proud of there jfk-belgrade flight as it is there only long-distance/wide-bodied flight they have and gave me a free voucher for one time "priority." I used the voucher on my return flight by check-in (went to business line) and they didn't take it away so i used it again by boarding for both legs.

We have a long stopover, May 10-11.
Is anyone else interested? Perhaps someone knows of a car/van and driver.

For what it's worth, my full refunds from trip.com posted for 24 hour cancellation. It was annoyingly complex, and lesson learned about relying on this for fly-by-night OTAs.

I booked for 4/6-4/19 through Chase. Air Serbia said their system doesn't let them put in meal preference or voucher for hotel (which they usually provide for long stopovers) due to the way chase issued the ticked (not their ticket number starting with 115).

Does anyone know a work around?

When booking with Air Serbia, are there any partner airlines worth earning miles with?

Use simple google maps, obviously, it depends on the time and which route you take, see below link.

https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Belgrade+Nikola+Tesla+Airport,+Belgrade,+Serbia/Bodrogkereszt%C3%BAr,+3916+Hungary/@46.4756469,18.314354,7z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m14!4m13!1m5!1m1!1s0x475a688a5214cf59:0xc3184c4bc7f300f9!2m2!1d20.291691!2d44.820498!1m5!1m1!1s0x4738ad447758d9dd:0x2e966f614d9aeda4!2m2!1d21.3595899!2d48.1630176!3e0

Dont forget to take into account the wait at the border (if any). If it is anything like going from Ukraine to Hungary, it can take hours

Are you going 4/06? If yes I would be interested in making a shachris in the Airport.

For the long stop over on the way back is it worth renting a car there or taking a shuttle / Cab...

Chabad has a center with a Shul on the first floor, the Kaminetzkys (the shluchim) are special people.
