Uber Disabling Accounts!
« on: January 28, 2020, 06:48:28 AM »
Last night wanted to order with uber eats got weird msg telling me my account is disabled. Weirdly enough only uber eats not uber. Now I see Doc reports it I guess it's a new shutdown for gift card abuse...anyone else?

I bought a $200 gift card with the Amex Amazon 20% promo, and my account is disabled,
what are gift cards meant for if not for being used?

Anyone here get there Uber account suspended yesterday?

Apparently they suspended 1000s of accounts yesterday. I am the admin of Uber health / business account and now I can’t access anything Uber related. I didnt have any issues or pull any shtick with Uber. Most recent activity was ordering food a bunch of times last week. I was trying unsuccessfully to get in touch with their business department for the past week and a half and must have been bumped to 15 different agents. None of which were able to help me. Then out of no where I get suspended and start getting emails from all the agents that my case has been transferred to the appropriate department (probably purgatory) and I should email anymore as it won’t help me and it will make it more difficult.

It also seems that suspensions happened on accounts that used a lot of gift cards to load up accounts and with people that have a lot of credit. (I didn’t have any of those)

This is a scary prospect for any of us who maintain high balances with online retailers. What would happen if my Amazon account got shut down with gift card balance seized? According to a bunch of reports on Elliott Advocacy that happens fairly regularly. It's one thing when somebody's miles/points are taken through an A/A or FR but I always assumed there was more robust regulation around gift cards. From everything I just googled, Amazon/Uber will make you chase them and State AG's have proved unwilling to help. Caveat emptor I guess.

Got a email a few minutes ago from uber

On January 28th, Uber experienced a technical issue that prevented you from accessing your account. We have corrected the error and applied a promotion of up to $10 off of each of your next two trips with Uber.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience.
