You're a parent. When your kid does something stupid, but escapes repercussions, does that excuse what happened? And why is "superspreading" the only issue with a huge wedding or event? Spreading on a lesser level is fine?

Say what you want about cases, but there are 88k+ hospitalized right now, and there have been more deaths today so far (not all numbers are in yet) than any day since May 6. But sure, keeping our weddings out of the media should be our greatest concern.

There are those that feel that epidemiological conditions in South Dakota and Utah have no bearing on conditions in KJ and Williamsburg, due to the fact that intermingling of the respective populaces with each other is basically nil. Nobody in BP carries umbrellas when there are monsoons in Cambodia.

Those would be the same people whose family members were relying on nurses and doctors from all over the country when NY hospitals were full in March and April? As NY hospitals fill up again, help will not be coming from the rest of the US. They have their own problems right now. And the fuller the hospitals get, the lower the quality of care gets. Amazing how people who pride themselves on big picture thinking miss the big picture. You don't need a 50% Covid infection rate in order to see significant deaths in the community.

ETA: and when c"v someone does end up in the hospital with Covid, and they look like the people in the paper who were at a 7k person wedding, I'm sure they'll get top notch care.

Nov 11 = 1480 deaths

Hospitalizations currently slightly higher than peak Hospitalizations mid to end of April.

Hospitalizations and deaths now, arguably mean more about the scope of the current situation, since, ostensibly hospital stays are shorter since treatment methods have improved, and for the same reason there should be less deaths

We’re at over 200K cases today and rising, 100K hospitalized and rising, 2,800 dead today and rising.

This is just the flu. Don’t worry.

(Even though more people have died *today* with COVID on their death certificate than die most *years* with the flu listed on their death certificate).

And here we thought (at least I did) that hospitals were doing a much better job at treating this disease. I'm definitely having second thoughts. They really don't have a handle on this and doesn't look like they will any time soon.

Let's hope that with Hashem's help the vaccine will be effective. But the death rate still needs to drop drastically until then. Its insane.

ETA: Is it possible that the current strain going around is perhaps more deadly? Just a thought that could be a possibility based on what we've experienced over the past ~9 months. But I might be totally off target. Just thinking out loud.
