That piece is terribly written. Because of vaccine mandates and no one wants to go to NY, therefore there’s terrible traffic going to NY. Furthermore, what time is the supposed traffic to NY? Sunday beach traffic to NY usually starts in the late afternoon once the beach dies out and weekend ends. Piece was written at 4pm and supposedly after people had 3 hour drives. So it’s a random late Sunday morning traffic that has something to do with vaccines mandates.

NY and NJ residents that would typically go to NYC on Friday night/Saturday/Saturday night for the restaurants and bars, are now instead heading to Atlantic city, the Jersey shore, and other spots throughout NJ.   

They go back home on Sunday afternoon which causes the heavy volume.

Don’t think it needs stating. Beach traffic is summer time Sunday evening traffic heading to NY. And as @Euclid asked, citation is needed that this is the cause of traffic, or if this an actual trend based on weeks of data or an isolated incident.
