It’s science just like common core is math.

I like how if you got the booster you don’t need to quarantine if exposed, but if you are flying back from Mexico you still need a negative COVID test and a mask the entire flight.

Never thought I would have fear of contracting COVID, but for the first time since I've had it I am feeling fear of getting it again (just because I don't want to miss davening by the omud). I wonder if we'll see a return to outdoor minyonim, or will it pass so fast that by the time that is contemplated almost everyone will have contracted it and it will be over.

2000 people contracted Omicron at a single outdoor masked concert so outdoor minyan wouldn’t help, but it does look like it will be over in 2-3 months iyh. Hospitals in Europe are empty, and UK ONS surveys are showing 20%+ of London already had Omnicron. At the current doubling rate the entire US will have it by February. The Spanish flu ended the same way.

That is my hope (and everyone else's), as well. Let's just hope it all works out (no more hospitalizations, immunity helps for all variants, and this variant suffocates other variants, and we reach herd immunity, and it fizzles out).

I think you're misunderstanding my fear.

An outdoor (porch) minyan would help because it's unlikely that I would be told not to participate if I am infected. That is what's important to me at this point (and second to that is not to even get the common cold, as it isn't fun davening at the omud when you have a cold, flu, or any symptomatic ailment.

I agree that Omicron might be a blessing, as it is likely to spread all over rapidly, so that herd immunity is finally developed (and with what seems to be a less severe strain). Though who knows if the natural immunity aquired after contracting Omicron, will be effective for other strains.  As they say (jokingly) in some circles  רובא דרובא - פירט דער אויבערשטער די וועלט, so things are likely to play out EXACTLY the way he has it planned.

Really? I feel like at this point the people that would be looking for outdoor minyan are the most nervous, and therefore less likely to be okay with someone infected participating.

Haven't been following closely, but my understanding is the early mitigation like masking and ventilation are much less effective as Omicron. Taiwan might be able to lock it out/lock down, but I don't think there is appetite in SK & Singapore for the major lockdown it would take to contain it.

There is also some evidence it is spreading across hallways and etc, which means even a complete lockdown wouldn't work

I don’t think you’re being fair. The conspiracy theorists were saying this in March 2020 when people were dying all over. Omicron is so transmissible and case counts are so high, that lots of people are carrying it around (many asymptomatically) and don’t even know it. And it’s possible this applies to people hospitalized for other reasons.
