We keep hearing the flu has been more deadly this year than previous years. I was thinking maybe because early cases were not diagnosed properly?
I've been saying this for weeks.  Now I just wonder if it's a second wave.  Quite worrying either way.

Did people lose their sense of smell due to the 'flu'?
Or was that a different strain?
And what about people who tested positive for flu? Or are you just asking about those who didn't test?
Workflowy. You won't know what you're missing until you try it.

For every 10 people I know, a bunch aren’t really serious about social distancing. So no.
Lol what kind of statistic is that
If you don't care why would you comment?

I know quite a few people who tested negative or inconclusive for the flu which leaves me wondering.

I know my daughter had flu like symptoms early December and tested negative for the flu. At that time, the pediatrician said the flu only has a 85% (approximately) accuracy rate.

Why has China and Russia been able to erect pop up hospitals while here in the US they can’t seem to manage?

Is their pop up hospitals just a tent and beds or real hospitals?

At this point it doesn’t really matter. Just do whatever is needed to get people in beds and save lives. Need to learn from our mistakes. We wanted a perfect test kit while other countries were happy to use something that was good enough. No need to elaborate how well that worked out.

https://www.unacast.com/covid19/social-distancing-scoreboard

Cool, I’ve actually wondered where I can see this data. Good to see things are down.

If I walk around within my house or yard, does that count as distance? Or does it go by the furthest distance I’ve gone.

Numbers are skewed because areas with low population density (e.g. Alaska, rural counties in NY state) will show worse numbers because the local Walmart is many miles away. Meanwhile in reality the people there might be more socially distant than people in densely populated areas.

Methinks there are two factors: The first is social distancing, meaning staying more than six feet away from people you don’t live with. The second is not to travel far from home unless it’s essential.

There’s some overlap but they’re two separate things in my eyes.

People who need their lives saved might be better off with a respirator at home than in a tent with a nurse that doesn’t have the equipment necessary to monitor them and save their life.

It does matter. Having a building with beds where you just go to die does matter. If that is all it is then stay home in your own bed and die.

They just approved usage of plasma from recovering patients as a treatment. Won't they have to screen the blood first? Seems like a worthwhile trade-off to me.

I just saw a WhatsApp request from MountSinai for plasma donors, so I guess it’s ready to go.

How much capacity for plasma/antibodies testing and how much of a game changer is this? Has this been used successfully at any scale in another country, and effective was it?

I believe a lot of people just turned location off, since they don't travel these days.
so local shopping and walks, won't show.

I don't disagree. I'm just saying we don't need an amazing hospital, just whatever is the best we can do within a short period of time. We don't want people lying in hospital corridors. If the best is to vent at home, then do that. If there are multiple options, utilize all of them. Whatever is good enough for war and can be deployed as quick as possible. Simultaneously we can work on creating better options. Just do whatever is necessary to save lives.

Many people don’t know how to do this or can’t be bothered. If they’re using mobile carrier data I don’t think they need the users’ location services to be turned on.

It’s a complex moving target with shortage on many levels.

Not enough staff, beds, PPE, ventilators, triage, etc.

I was just pointing out that these hospitals put up so quickly in other countries are probably not really hospitals but just bed space. We can do millions of those in week.
