Bad for those individuals - their illness is more likely to be serious or fatal
Good for society - the spread can be contained by locking down nursing homes

False. Spread rates among younger people will undoubtedly be higher, so even though the fatality rate is much lower, the absolute number of deaths could rise.

Another thing to take into account about Florida's numbers is where they come from. I think the number was 90% of testing is being done privately, with the 20-30 crowd more likely to utilize public testing. LTCFs are self-reporting, and there is no uniformity on the reporting from private facilities and labs.

At this point, everything is speculation. I don't think there will be any clarity until after the election, because of swing state politics.

Doubtful. There's too much riding on this. DeSantis is looked at like a mini-Trump, and there will be every incentive in the world to deny, deny, deny until mid-November.

Look at the dashboard. We've gone from 600-700 cases a day to over 4000. Even if 80% of the cases were old people then (they weren't) and 80% of the cases are young people now (possible, but I don't think so), you've still increased the infections in old people by a very significant amount.

In addition, you said it was good news that more young people are getting infected. Do you have evidence that old people stopped getting infected or are decreasing? South Carolina daily numbers increased 4 fold in the last 16 days, but only 18% of the total cases are people 21-30 that they are blaming the increases on. Meanwhile, 75% of the total new cases are just from increases.

I don't think anyone disagrees that there may very well be an increase in the number of cases amongst old people. If the majority of the increase is due to more younger people testing positive that makes the increase much less alarming and it can indicate that their strategy is working.

The irony is posts like this from people complaining about the covid response becoming too political.

The number of cases are doubling, tripling, and quadrupling in these states, and young people make up a larger percentage of the increase. That is not a good thing unless you’re wearing Trump 2020 glasses.

I didn't even make it thru the entire article, and i certainly didnt look at any of the sources. All i saw was an article saying how terrible it was that the new cases are shifting to younger people which is ridiculous.
