I didn't have a huge issue with the outdoor minyan, given that it was happening at a time of very little Covid activity here, but there were no masks and it was in a tent. I had a pregnant wife and then a newborn in the house and a super high-risk FIL. Not that I have to justify myself to you... But this black and white, binary mentality you have is so wrong on every level.

I may have been off so I’ll take back the “weeks of 200s-300s” for now but I checked quite a few times over the past couple of weeks and saw numbers in the 200s-300s (sometimes 400s and 500s)  for some time. Perhaps they were aberrations and/or delayed reporting issues but I haven’t seen a day close to a thousand in a very very long time until 2 days ago.

To some degree, yes. But his point about misrepresenting the realities by lumping new hotspots with old is, IMO, the biggest driver of confusion.

I think he may be extrapolating NY metro's early results to the new hotspots without actually taking into account the things @Ergel mentioned that he acknowledged as factors. But given the data, it's not absurd to conclude that we'll be looking at an average of 800-1500 daily deaths for the next 8 weeks, putting us over 200k (total) by mid-September.

I know, and I agree. That's why I said I don't agree with his extreme conclusions when I posted it. However, I do think that his data points to upwards of 50k deaths in that timeframe.

Some of the responses in that thread suggest he may be estimating the number of real covid-related deaths, which are thought to be widely undercounted, in Florida and elsewhere, rather than the officially reported numbers.

Most of it us has to do with timing, anyone in or near NY has had a major outbreak that during a time where didn’t know as much about the virus and many people died that would survive today. I think the a question for you is, why is the leftist utopia known as California not in the top 10 of either metric? While less populated, less urban states are?

Where exactly do you get your numbers?

California as a whole is Red. The Blue parts like Los Angeles/Imperial/Marin Counties have been much harder then the rest of the state and are on par with the highest numbers in the country.
