Arizona - Grand Canyon NP
« on: January 27, 2020, 11:36:23 AM »
I went with a friend for 2 days to The Grand Canyon NP in Arizona. Here is a quick TR

Flew with AA on a basically empty flight JFK-PHX on Motzei Shabbos, arrived Sunday 1:00 a.m.
Rented a car from Hertz.
Slept in a local hotel near Chabad of Scottsdale. Sunday morning, we drove out to Sedona, stopped on the way at Out of Africa.

Afterwards we hiked Cathedral rock, Slept over in Sedona.

[

Monday morning drove out to the GC, hiked the south Kaibab.

Then went to Navajo Point – Not to be missed.

then drove back via Route 89, it was a breathtaking drive compared to route 64 that most people take.

Then drove back to PHX and back home with Jetblue.

It's actually a hike down. The trails are endless. You can hike down until the Colorado river. We hiked until Ohh Ahh point, it took about 25 minutes down and 40 minutes up.

Wow looks like a great idea for a short to the point getaway!

Where did you stay in Sedona, and what made you choose Sedona over Flagstaff ? And wasn't it too much driving on Monday?

I can't say what his cheshbon was, but other than being closer to GC, I can't imagine there being any advantage to Flagstaff. Sedona is absolutely gorgeous. (I know this is an unpopular opinion, but I personally would probably choose Sedona over GC.) I don't know if he was able to appreciate it at the time of day he drove it, but IMO Rt 89a, between Sedona and Flagstaff, is one of the most beautiful drives in the country.

Stayed at Courtard by Marriott, used 50k voucher from the Ritz CC

Yup. My wife wouldn't allow me to go away for longer than that. I also agree it's a perfect trip for a quick getaway.

It's not my first time at the GC, I have been to Sedona before and loved it. Didn't even look into Flagstaff.

We left Sedona around 8:00 a.m. left the GC around 3 p.m. arrived in PHX 7 p.m. I did not find the drive so hard. I love road trips...

Yup I did this drive while it was still light outside. Beautiful indeed.
