"I'll still do a convention speech, in a different form. But we won't do a big crowded convention, per se."

A bit. But i don't see how canceling the convention would affect him one way or the other. OTOH canceling rallies, most certainly will.

He is trying to give the perception that he is now taking the virus seriously. It is to late and he will get hammered in the debates over it.
