So do I. It is because everything anyone says having nothing to do with gender or race you immediately and sometimes preemptively bring in that garbage.

This is kind of a silly argument. You guys know the convention is not the House of Representatives. It's about getting the party excited and mobilized. Eva Longoria (and Kerry Washington, Julia Louise-Dreyfus, Jennifer Hudson, and John Legend) fans tuned in and got excited, so mission accomplished.

But I definitely agree that we should avoid placing celebrities with no legal/political experience in actual positions of political power. Glad that's not an issue these days! (As an aside, man, I miss the Apprentice; what ever happened to that guy?)

If Eva Longoria's presence at the DNC is how you feel better about voting for a celebrity candidate whose decision-making has caused countless preventable deaths, I'd urge you to reconsider.

I believe the Eva Longoria "hate" is based on her relevance as a celebrity. She's not exactly the first name that would come to mind if you're trying to get people excited and tuned in.

Men and women are different. For some reason some men look at strong independent woman differently. Some men would be afraid to marry one. Do you see a lot of strong independent women in your community?

Strong and independent are not necessarily synonymous in our community, as I view it.

I can speak for myself, as my perception doesn't necessarily represent that of others within my community.

There are many strong women in the community. Strong in the sense that they stick to their convictions and morals, and will not back down or get intimidated.

Independent is not considered a virtue the way I see it, however, it is not necessarily a minus either. A Jewish couple is supposed to be a team, with each spouse helping the other achieve their goals. It is not considered a fault if one spouse is dependent on the other, and that being so, not many women are driven to accentuate their independence.
