How is this different than the "pick your poison" thread? This seems much more poisonous.

An interesting thing about this matchup is that it's another NY subway matchup like in 2016. Trump would once again lose his home state but at least not to an out-of-state opponent.

Trump left NY.... changed his residency to Fl...

maybe this was the reason behind it?  :P

Interpretation: Sanders is not going to pull this off.

Or, he'll will win the primary but not the general

Sanders ceiling has been around 25. Not gonna win a majority of delegates unless he can prove he can climb to higher numbers. Hence why so many people are still in it. This has contested convention written all over it. And hard to see Bernie winning at the DNC.

Change Bernie to Trump and I'm sure you can find a post with these exact words 4 years ago.

I don’t think this country will elect someone “married” to another man.
Please, that's the only reason anyone is even talking about him. If he wasn't gay he would just be another one of those candidates nobody even knows are running.

there's this
But voting for him makes many Dems feel good.
And also people want to see that historical "first."

(Go back and look at headlines from when Obama first won. there were no "Obama wins" headlines, they were all "first black president elected.")

That might be a tax move. He might have run out of carryover losses.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

While the media might like to spin it this way would the average American vote for him just because he’s gay ? With Obama there was the whole dark history to factor in. What oppression have gays been put through, other than not being legally allowed to marry ?

1. Don't forget we're talking about the Dems and moderates here, I do think there are more of those who would vote for him because he's gay than there are who wouldn't vote for him because he's gay.

2. Don't forget we're talking about him vs Trump, it's not just him in a vacuum. I don't think there are enough people who otherwise would vote D but won't here because he's gay to make any difference. (although I still think he loses to Trump)

Trump 'losing' NY is a bit of a misnomer since NY hasn't voted Republican since Reagan in 1984

When was the last time a candidate lost their own state? Even Mondale won his own state.

Then why not for a woman ? That should be more historical, considering what women went through.

Probably more testament to candidates being in line with their state, not the states bending to their candidate.

Mondale was a senator for 12 years.

Same thing with a woman. I think there are more people (at least Democrats) who would vote specifically for a woman just because she's a woman than there are who vote against her because she's a woman.

I'm not saying that being gay or a woman is enough for someone to get elected, I'm just saying that there's not enough opposition to gays or women that it would prevent them from getting elected.

This. The reason every candidate always won their home state is simply because if they won statewide office (US Senate or Governor), they clearly have support in their home state. If they weren't popular in their own state they wouldn't make it too far in the primaries.
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

Right. I think the whole winning the "home state" thing only applies to a politician in that state. For someone like Trump who wasn't in politics I don't see why it's relevant that he happens to live in that state.
