Choosing a Laptop
« on: November 15, 2011, 05:07:01 PM »
How would you rate in order the following laptops. Please add any pros or cons that one may have over the other.

Thanks.

Apple, Dell, Toshiba, Lenovo, and HP.

What about Sony? What should we consider when ranking them (just quality or should we factor price/value in as well)?

In General I'd rate (and who am i to rate :P...) the brands in this order;
Dell, Sony, HP.

Of course there are always exclusions and exceptions but in general reliability and customer service that's how I'd go.

I'm looking to get a simple cheap laptop just for typing. Any recommendations?

I'm a fan of HP's higher end laptops.  They build powerful machines that can be true desktop replacements.

For value, Lenovo's are great if you're looking for something just for basic office applications, Internet, and watching the occasional flick.  This is probably more inline with what you're looking for.  You could probably pick up their last gen Yoga2 for very little, and it's a really nice package.

Apple and Sony will charge a premium just because they can.

I don't understand how you can make general statements like lenovos are good for basic use. Judge each laptop by its specs, not my its make. I'm sure a high end Lenovo would beat a low end hp. Look at the laptop, not the make.

I'm not sure why a thread titled choosing a laptop isn't the right thread to ask for laptop reccommendations.

Because everyone uses the other one :)

I make general statement when I'm speaking generally.  In any case, Evan was most concerned about value and I feel that Lenovo's offer better bang for the buck compared to some other brands.

Obviously any high end laptop will blow a low end laptop out of the water.  Thanks for pointing that out.

Because, most people looking for a laptop, are also looking for the best deal as well.
The other thread has discussed extensively all aspects of laptop purchasing.
Oh, and this thread is almost 4 years old..
