worst experience i had was at Hertz in JFK at night when theres that one jamaican guy that works there and gave me lots of attitude and was a real shmuck!

Rented from Hertz. Got a Platepass charge even though I used cash at the toll lanes.
Called Platepass multiple times and was told that if I don't have receipts showing cash payment during those dates/times at those locations, they will not remove the charge.
Disputed with Amex, got denied. Disputed a second time and was told to write a letter explaining why I'm disputing.

It is a known fact that the box which Platepass provides to shield the transponder from being scanned is not effective enough and gets scanned even though one keeps it in the box.

For the purpose of my letter I collected a bunch of links where people are reporting the same issue.
I figured I'll post them here.

I had a similiar issue, but i paid the tolls with my own ezpass. They were charging me for tolls that i never even went on. I disputed with amex twice, no luck. I contacted platepass they told me to send in my own ezpass bill, 5 months later they finally credited back my money.

Did you try sending your EZPass bill to Amex?
