I think having cold air in the room also helps.

And a humidifier. Builder grade forced air systems are horrible.

A sleep study is the way to go. If it turns out you have actual sleep apnea, a cpap machine is likely the only thing that will work short of surgery, which is only sometimes effective. Losing weight will often help alleviate but not completely resolve sleep apnea. Having undiagnosed sleep apnea is dangerous since it affects your heart, often your blood sugar, and has a host of other mortality risks. If it is simple snoring and not apnea,  breath right strips will help, as will adjusting sleeping positions, some pillows, and several other nasal breathing aids you can find on Amazon.

For mild to moderate cases oral appliance therapy can be as effective and has significantly higher compliance rate.

Compliance yes. Effective, hardly universal. Oral appliance therapy is generally not as effective as CPAP head to head according to most studies.. It is considered a viable alternative for mild to moderate SA because of compliance rates and the idea that some therapy is better than none, however, although initial compliance rates are higher, studies have shown that as few as 32% of participants reported using their oral appliance regularly, and 55% stopped therapy within the first year so really little long term compliance benefit. Therefore cpap, assuming compliance is achieved, is still the gold standard of treatment for sleep apnea.

I remember the cause of my fathers snoring being an elongated uvula. He had a procedure done to trim it, and has slept better since. Not sure if that's a common issue or not though.
Memories last forever, make them while you can.

CPAP works when it is used. unfortunately the compliance rate is dismal. studies show oral appliance therapy is not just "better than [no therapy]." It actually works. I'm not saying CPAP doesn't work and shouldn't be tried. I'm saying that for many patients oral appliance is a better alternative.

Hence:

a cpap machine is likely the only thing that will work
False

I also just heard of dreamsipper.com

It's an exercise device that supposedly strengthens the muscles in the back of the throat. I ordered one to see what it is and how it works.

it supposedly exercises the muscles that create snoring and apnea and firms them up
