Have we learned nothing from the Palin debacle?
Palin was the only reason McCain stood a chance.
The media have a very hard time destroying someone they didn't build, she was an example of that. They just couldn't (and still can't) bring her down.

Palin was a disaster.  She caused plenty of excitement initially until everybody realized she was nuts.

This was in all likelihood a "feeler" sent out by the Romney people. I doubt that there is real serious consideration for putting a Bush insider who is a foreign policy wonk and who is not very conservative (and btw pro-choice) on the ticket with Romney. I would bet it will be someone like Bobby Jindal or Tim Pawlenty or Mitch Daniels or Marco Rubio or Paul Ryan or Rob Portman. All those have solid conservatives bona-fides and are experienced, trusted hands in the Republican party. It will be pretty hard for the Dems to portray any of those as wing nuts (with the possible exception of Paul Ryan).

I dunno... with the African American unemployment rate at > 14%, I'd say at least a few will swing red.

Maybe a few percentage points but nothing significant. Obama gets 90%+ of the black vote in 2012. But the pool of black voters may shrink because of the discontent with Obama (which is good for the GOP). But they won't be voting for Romney.

My, how things have changed.
You mean when elections were won based on good looks and last names?  Nah that still happens today.

I mean the tone of the debate.  I haven't seen anything like it.  Both men presenting their views without personal personal attacks.  You will never hear a candidate say what JFK says in the first part of this clip.  "I think Mr. Nixon is an effective leader of his party. I hope he would grant me the same.  The question before us is: Which point of view, and which party, do we want to lead the United States"

I was also amazed at how articulate these 2 are.  You don't hear an uh or um in the entire clip.

If you close your eyes and listen to what the candidates are saying, Nixon won that debate. JFK on the other hand looks much better on TV. Remember that if you ever start to wonder why a lib never had a successful talk radio program.
